Hi! I would really love to see jet packs, antigravity boots, and pills that will let me live to 300. But in the meantime how about we focus on businesses that are sustainable and practical. Sorry if you think this is mean-spirited. I don't mean to be. I just think it's CRUCIAL that we all pull in the same direction as the strongest ideas -- a movie theater is one. A quality hotel is another. Children's clothing. Pet store. Like that.

I fail to see what jet packs, antigravity boots, and pills for UNREALISTIC human longevity have to do with an idea for what sounds like a modern version of a healthclub for young professionals using a couple of the fastest growing FITNESS crazes.

Are you saying that attracting young professionals to downtown Troy is NOT sustainable? Aren't there NEW condo's happening around that area?

PS. A Movie Theater is a MUST- but it should also offer beer and perhaps wine, as to better compete with MALL movies.

I do see your point though troyogini. There are things that I think are more pressing, or important for the city to do, but if carrotclarity feels this is important to him/her, than it is, and I wouldn't mind seeing something like that as well.

I modern health club would be awesome.

Where would be a good place for it? Where were you thinking it would be located carrotclarity?

There is a rock climbing gym at RPI, also there is one in schenectady that is pretty popular, my roomate goes there all the time.

That said, I think this is definitely a more important idea than people are giving it credit for. While I think to be successful an enterprise like this might need a bit more than just rock climbing and volleyball, one of the big things Troy is lacking right now is retention of its college students. An activity center designed to attract young adults would be a huge step toward eliminating the perception that "there's nothing to do in Troy but drink" that is so common among the over 2000 graduating college students that flock AWAY from us after graduation every year. Far from deserving snarky, mean-spirited sarcasm, this is an idea that well deserves to be in the pot with all the others.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of a movie theater too, especially with drink service!

someone was commenting on having a juice bar, well do you know about the new place, Oliver's Naturals? During the summer he will have a wonderful variety of fruits, from the local farms etc, he usually has grapefruit and orange juice, but it would be too expensive for the customers if he was buying fruits from the store, and they would probably not be organic, When possible Adam and Lauren (the owners) feel very passionate about buying organic whenever possible. You shoul check this place out it is like being in your friends living room (one customer put it like this). Oliver's is open Tuesday thru Saturday 10 am til 4 pm Sunday 9-12 Weekends are a blast there, lots of good vibes and laughter and just great people. Hope to see you all there.

Hi. I this is "carrot clarity". I posted the idea about indoor rock climbing. To troyogini, I have a pill for you that will make you fly and live to 301. First ones free, though. You'll have to get the next one from someone else because I won't be around when you're 301. They'll find you sitting on your butt in the hotel or movie theatre.

I think there is really something to be said for things like this (and the bike and skateboard park idea also posted here). I think Troy needs things like this to be a place that younger people, and families want to live.
