Although OurTroy.com espouses the worthy attitude that "ideas are worthless unless they are executed on" there is very little in the site design and structure to support this. Adding comments to ideas can spark useful discussion, but at the end of the day, all you have is a discussion thread - there is no practical way to summarize the outcome of the discussion, or to organize action by the participants.
A more Wiki-like approach that lets participants edit ideas would provide much more support for this, and I just found out about a site that incorporates these kinds of ideas, organized by the Open Planning Project.
NYCstreets.org is an NYC Streets Renaissance Campaign initiative, and is still in beta, but it looks very promising as an on-line community site for organizing and acting. It has projects, wiki pages, even mailing lists, and a task tracker that allows you to organize actions and actually get things done (and not just talk about them).
I strongly encourage the people (whoever you are) that are running OurTroy.com to look into this other site. If you can adopt or incorporate any of their technology, great! If not, at least try to steal some of the ideas for the site.
I would gladly give up the existing history/status on the site as it currently is implemented (and/or re-enter it manually) and re-confirm/sign-up/set-up my site account if it meant we could get something like what NYCstreets.org has.
