OurTroy.com is a site dedicated to the support and improvement of the world class city we call home: Troy, NYThe function of this site is simple:

- Post ideas on ways to improve our city
- Vote on and support the ideas that have been posted by others
- Discuss and refine the ideas with other members of the community

- Enable collaboration amongst community members with common goals and passions
- Obtain actionable information, that we as a community can move forward with to bring about change and improvement

How to get started:

1) Register - Register and update your profile information.
2) Read - Check out the ideas that have been posted by other members of the community. You may find many ideas that you agree with.
3) Vote - Vote to support the ideas that you agree with, and would like to see become reality.
4) Comment - Comment on ideas that you like or dislike. It could be an additional thought to improve the idea, a question, or even a courteous comment regarding why you don't agree with the idea.
5) Submit - Submit your own ideas. Choose the category/area of the city that best applies to your idea and submit it for others to view and support.
6) Get to work! - Create projects, and work together with other members of the community to act on the ideas that you like best.
Other things you can do:

1) Follow the ideas you like best! By clicking the "Follow!" button for an idea, you will automatically be notified when someone comments on that idea.
2) Subscribe to the feed for your neighborhood, multiple neighborhoods, or for the entire city. By subscribing to the feed you will automatically be updated when a new idea has been posted.
3) Upload you own personal avatar/image. You can upload an avatar/image to further personalize your profile. This image will also show up along side your ideas, and comments.
3) Add ideas to your social bookmarks. You can automatically add ideas to digg, del.icio.us, reddit, and other social bookmarking sites.
4) Think of ways to improve the OurTroy.com site. Have ideas for additional features, services, tools, etc that would be of use to you and others? Post those ideas in the OurTroy.com site category, and we will do our best to continue to improve this offering.
5) Spread the word! Tell others about OurTroy.com, and invite them to join us. The best way to do this is in person, but we also provide a "Tell a friend" feature which allows you to send an email to 3 friends at once, with a note and a link to a specific idea.
6) Just use it! Submit ideas, comment, vote, contribute.

Question: Are there physical meetings? I don't know how much good simple discussions will do.
Answer: We don't think there needs to be a set agenda and structure. However, we do feel very strongly that ideas are worthless unless they are executed on.
The goal is to have a single place for members of the community to come together to collaborate and innovate. This starts with ideas and discussion. Through discussion, those ideas are refined, and major stakeholders can be identified. Those stakeholders can be participants in the discussion, or others identified by those participants.
Once the ideas are refined, members can form groups to bring those ideas to fruition. This can be enabled through OurTroy.com as well, in the form of sophisticated, yet easy to use and powerful online collaboration tools for managing projects.
If users feel they need physical meetings, we plan to provide tools to manage, schedule, and coordinate those meetings as well.
This is part of our vision, yet ultimately we want OurTroy.com to be what the community wants it to be.
Question: Is there a cost to participate?
Answer: Absolutely not.
You simply register with your email (your email is not made public to anyone) and select a username and password, and you can start posting ideas and interacting with other users immediately.
