Quality kid friendly restaurants that stay open late

I wish there were more quality kid friendly restaurants that stayed open later.

Troy has some of the best restaurants in the area (the best in my opinion), but it's not feasible (or cost effective) for my wife and I to take our two young boys to Tosca, River Street Cafe, etc, for dinner.

I'm not a big fan of chain restaurants or fast food, so personally I'd love to see someone open up a more kid friendly restaurant, that served good quality food into dinner time.

What does everyone else think? Maybe there are some that I just don't know about.

Yep. There isn't much aside from pizza and fast food that stays open later, and is somewhat kid friendly.

How about a Moe's? Kid's eat free on Mondays there. Not really healthy though... but kid friendly and cost effective :-)

Have you tried the Flavour Cafe and Lounge. This is a great establish that caters to people from ages 8-80! Better yet they don't serve alcohol. Your right there's only Chinese food and pizza. But this place stays open late till 10pm every night! They have homemade soups salads sandwiches wraps and of course tons of different coffeehouse drinks! Check them out! www.flavourcafe.com

I'll need to try the Flavour Cafe again. I've literally been there once, and I think I had a simple cup of coffee. It was a while ago now too. I didn't know they served food, and thats great that they stay open so late.

We just went out to dinner last night with our 9 month old daughter downtown at First Choice Caribbean on Ferry Street between 4th and 5th. It wouldn't necessarily come to mind first thing when thinking of kid-friendly, but I think it qualifies. They even have things like burgers, mac&cheese, and mashed potatoes (the last one a hit with the baby) for kids who aren't ready to try spicier choices.

I didn't know that First Choice Carribean had burgers, mashed potatos, etc. Thats on Fulton Street though right?

I ate there once during college, and it was very good. I'll have to check it out again.

Right - Fulton Street, not Ferry. Having grown up in Manhattan, I'm still bad at all these named, not numbered, streets. It was helpful when somebody explained that they were named after Presidents, although I don't remember President Ida from American History class...

the only thing i can think of is brown's on river street. they have high chairs and a children's menu, but it's not necessarily great food. i just heard of a place called oliver's organics on fulton street (between first choice & shalimar) that has yummy, organic (when possible) food. i have yet to try it, nor do i expect they're open late... but it's a possibility.

i just went to oliver's naturals (that's a correction to my previous post, in which i mistakenly called it oliver's organics) saturday. the food was good, prices very good, but i was disappointed that it wasn't really as kid-friendly as it's supposed to be. there are no high chairs and few seating options. there are no side/snack kind of foods, either. disappointing. the good news is: the food is really, really good... and good for you too!

I know that since this blog there is a high chair and they have had some side snacks. They have Mema's Biscotti and delicious cookies from their baker and they usually have veggie chips. They opened on December 18th so I think Adam is adjusting and ironing out the bugs, he appreciates the feed back and he is open to any suggestions, the place is DELICIOUS or as Rachael Ray would say DELISH!!!!!!!!!

You should definitely provide the owner with this feedback, as I would expect that they would do their best to be more kid friendly if they had some suggestions as to how.

While the seating at Oliver's is not as kid-friendly as one might wish, the owner (his name is Adam; Oliver is actually the name of his infant son) did tell me that there is a changing table in the bathroom (I haven't seen it). I suspect that as Oliver gets older, Adam will be adding features/facilities (high-chairs or booster seats would be a good addition) that would make this restaurant more kid-friendly for toddlers and older children.

Also - although the food is good, and not too expensive, they are definitely not open late - it is pretty much a lunch place, at least for now. Open Tuesday thru Sunday 10AM to 4PM. It *is* nice to see a place downtown that is open on Sundays; hopefully this will continue.

I agree... I'd like to see more family friendly places. I've not tried Oliver's. I'll have to check it out.
